Chicago Dispatchers

Any takers?

It seems that there's a problem finding a dispatcher to work in the OC on 2nd Watch. The Deputy Director sent out a memo, now in the C.O. book, seeking volunteers to work across the hall on Days.

They're even trying to sweeten the deal by offering a Saturday/Sunday day-off group to any volunteers. But they're in such dire need that they had to throw in the old "reverse seniority will be used" clause in case there are no volunteers.

Guess the old demoted Acting Deputy Director is still like a cancer on the growth and forward movement of OEC. There can't possibly be any other reason why people would avoid the OC like the plague, especially given that there weren't people clamoring to avoid it before she got reassigned over there. She's not allowed near us on the Operations floor anymore, and noone wants to be remotely close to where she has to be, either.

Why is it only offered to people on days? Maybe there is someone on afternoons or midnights that COULD get along with her!!!!

Don't think for a minute that even if you like her or don't realize what she's capable of and you want to work over there because of the hours, you won't be a chastized micro managed goof within 3 months - maybe shorter, Run everyone, run the other way and stay where you are if you value your career.

3rd watch read it out as if only people on 2nd watch could apply.
Can they force us to take a detail? Sitting in the coc n joc is not dispatching the police persay. Let them try reverse seniority and document how not one of 300 employees could work with her. 300 people cannot be wrong, there is something very bad across the atrium.

The posting in the CO book reads:

"Any dispatcher currently assigned to the 2nd watch can volunteer to work their entire tour of duty in the OC."

Sounds specifically offered to 2nd watch PCO2s only. I guess you PCO2s on 1st and 3rd watches need not apply!!

(Is that a blessing in disguise??)

YES it is...I feel sorry for the most junior person on days.

Off to the OC with you...kind of sounds like a death sentence!

The Chicago Reader article about the accidental shooting death at the 95th Red Line station by Officer Alvin Weems definitely casts us in a negative light, but does bring to light the immense disparity in punishment handed down on CR# investigations.

I encourage everyone to read it in its entirety and absorb what occurred. Weems was found guilty of ten rule violations including rule 14 and caused the death of someone yet he only gets a 30 suspension and then gets promoted twice????

What the hell is that? How many coppers have been fired for nothing comparatively speaking? How many take huge suspension time on baseless bullshit beefs? Where was the due process for Captain Buslik?

SCC, please do a post on the imposition and fairness of the disciplinary process on CPD. Let all coppers post the truth on the corrupt system and how they bury beefs if you are politically heavy. Those without clout get fired or take incredible suspension time. This is nothing new, Weems is one of literally hundreds of coppers with pull who have gotten away with a slap on the hand.

Where is the FOP on this issue? Fair is Fair, discipline should not be arbitrarily and capriciously handed out.

Can we touch on the topic, that EVERY SINGLE DAY we come to work we are hit up by somebody asking for money for something. All day long, the messages are non-stop about what seems to me to be un-work related about collecting money for Cure Autism Now, collecting money for "Be Out Of Uniform Day", collecting money for The Breast Cancer walk, collecting money for a benfit for an ill co-worker, and collecting money for flowers for another co-worker, collecting money for blah blah blah ... etc etc etc etc ....

I'm really getting sick and tired of it. And I am not the only person who feels this way. There are posters ALL OVER WORK. We're all aware of the fundraising you're doing. If I WANT to give to your charity, then I WILL APPROACH YOU, and hand you some money! Respect That Please!!!!

If I don't want to give, I think it's pretty shitty to keep sending messages about it, not once, but NUMEROUS times during your tour of duty. It's overkill, man. OVERKILL!

And don't even start with how I must be some ignorant A-hole, and how rude I am. I have made my share of contributions, but Seriously, I make the same amount of money that y'all make. I simply CANNOT afford to give to EVERY SINGLE THING. I have bills to pay too!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to say something to the person who posted about being hit up for money all the time at work. First of all, as you stated the numerous messages must stop. Also I too, don't like it when someone approaches me about buying something for their kids, or a baby shower or whatever. I think just mentioned it ONCE IN ROLLCALL and let whomever is interested come to you. But the complaint about giving for an ill co worker disturbed me. I don't know about you, but if I became ill today for a undetermined amount of time my family would be in crisis. I am a single parent with lots of family members depending on me. I would hope that the someone at work thought enough of me to know I would need some help during that time. Now before you say anything yes I have long term and short time disabilty. Yes I do have some savings. But long term medical care can be expensive and Medicare is a joke. It doesn't pay a thing. I know we are all entitled to our opinions. Thank God for being an American!!!
But that was thoughtless. And then I was informed someone went to Simmons about the fundraising efforts. Low class all the way. If you don't want to participate don't. But don't piss on the efforts of others who are genuinely trying to give support to a fellow co worker. As for the March of Dimes, Autism and Breast Cancer fundraisers. Are you kidding me!!! How do you complain about that. Anyone can get cancer and as women they don't do enough research when it comes to how diseases affect us. A healthy child is a blessing, not all are born that way. I think we forget that.

the 1:24 post doesnt say anything about people's worthy causes being UNWORTHY in any way. It is merely an opinion about the many many messages that get sent around the ops floor. Chances are when you get a message it's about another perosn's fundraising efforts. This happens on every wathc. We are all entitled to an opinion, and as you said Thank God for being an American.

Yea messages are only when you are talking to your friend's in the field, or tattle taling on a car to a sgt, or being notified that your lunch is cancelled and you're being mandated. We know how difficult it is to hit the exit or delete button. Next message is the
fundraiser we will be having for our coworker in a mental institution for stressing out over excessive messages!
ps To all those fundraising folks out there. Thank you. Thank you for reminding me everyday how lucky I am. Thank you for being charitable with your time and effort for the good of mankind. Thank you for giving me the assurance that if my sh&t ever hit the fan, that there are people who would care what happened to me. Thank you for being the golden hearted people that you are.

I am amazed to work in a place that has such a generous heart. I have never worked somewhere where people give so much - time and money. It makes me feel good about where I work. With all that we spend on ourselves for things we don't need, it is a constant reminder for me to think of those who are in need. Did anyone see the American Idol benefit for Africa/USA? When reality hits you in the face like that - it's time to re-evaluate our priorities.

I don't mean to make anyone feel guilty - but we do need to really look at what we are spending our money on before we decide that we can't afford to give to those in need. I'm sure I am one of the most guilty in over-spending on myself. I am in the process now of trying to stop that and put my money to better use. This really isn't a long life - and what we do with what we have will be important in the long run.

I think she knew the whole time her little friend was going to be in there...they just posted it with the offer of s/s dog so the person that took it could get that perk and they wouldnt have to justify it..THEY ARE FRIENDS people..are you all blind. Didn't you notice every time there was a committee or interview panel that same female was detailed off the floor..Come on...you all have to know this.

to 09 May, 2007 14:23,

you are way misinformed. put your suspicious mind away. while they may be friends (DH & MK), and yes DH was part of many interview panels and committees, nevertheless, DH solved a big problem for all of us. think about it. it was clearly announced in the c/o book because nobody wanted to go to the oc. it was also clearly announced that seniority ruled. the ss dog was in hopes of enticing someone, anyone (pco2) to go there. if somebody with more seniority than DH wanted it, they could of had it. nobody, BUT NOBODY, other than DH, wanted it, even with the SS dog. none of us wanted to work for MK, so a big thank you to DH. i hope it works for you. good luck, but when DH cannot stand it anymore, we will be back to taking turns in the MK dunk tank.

mk is in ss. the ss for the 2 is designed so no 2 other than dh has to work for her. think about it.

09 May, 2007 15:15
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't think that's suspicious at all. I think they put it in the co book KNOWING that no one would want it. Even with the s/s dog. This way, no one could complain about her getting it with the s/s dog because they could automatically say "Well...we put it in the CO book" . Furthermore, lets be clear, it was not open to anyone. It was only open to those already assigned to the 2nd watch. Also, anyone who works has ever spent any time in that room knows, there is absolutely no need for a Watch Manager in there. I'm sure she sits all day with her thumb up her butt. And can someone tell my why she is rolling a suitcase in and out of there????? Why couldn't they just get her out of the building?

09 May, 2007 23:16

to 09 May, 2007 23:16,

you are one DUMB fuck. check with our union. it's essentially an operations floor second watch spot (not a detail, read the c/o book) so it had to go to a 2 on the second watch, one way or the other, either by seniority or reverse seniority. and you obvioulsy DO NOT work the second watch, because if you did, you wouldn't be trying to start shit about a thing that NOBODY on the second watch wants, other than DH. Problem solved asshole, so shut up! If DH leaves, and she probably will when she has enough of MK, ask our reps or JR if the union will consent to opening it up to 2's on third and first watches because nobody on the second watch wants it, and then put in for it. YOU CAN HAVE IT! but til then, shut the fuck up. you sound so stupid. you cannot see the forest for the trees.

10 May, 2007 10:31
Anonymous Anonymous said...

and do you want MK back on the floor? if not, where would they put her? so shut up idiot, less you want her back. you are really one dumb fuck! if they could just get her out of the building, that means they could just get YOU out of the building too. think about it goof. you are nuts.

good riddens to both dh and mk they deserve each other, a medical abuser and a control freak should work good togetheR! MAYBE MK AND DH can put their minds together and figure out how to dress with some taste when civillian dress comes round on the floor!

MKwould be nothing to get out of the building, " goodbye don't let the door hit you in the ass" . MK is exempt and not even career service, any given moment they can walk up to her and tell her, her services are no longer needed. Us on the other hand take pratically a court order to be put out of the building.
There is only one obvious reason why an incompetent supervisor, who has done nothing but cause grief, mayhem, chaos and shame to our dept still has a job. CLOUT.
Pat DH on the back for taking a bullet for the team. We should be buying her coffee everyday, that a string of garlic for around her neck...
