We won't just ignore disapproval.

We were told to take a cue from SCC, and we shall. Most of you have perused the comments sections, and have seen comments we feel obligated to address.

What a sad posting on this very day. You claim your heart goes out and yet your comments of running away and the Sept. 10th typo shows you made light of those that actually sacrificed here and continue to do so abroad, oil and Bush?

"10Sep01" wasn't a typo. It was a reference to the day before 11Sep01, hence "10Sep01." We thought that was pretty clear in itself, and through context clues. Or through the fact that we don't let typos sit on the blog in posts discussing more trivial topics.

You thought more of running away and top posting the topic of dating Po's, then of genuinely honoring all the fallen. You have lost a blogger and any faith in your ability to remotely pave the way of any changes at OEMC.

We post in order of post creation, which results in the posts showing in reverse chronological order. If that offends, you, sorry, you're a "lost blogger" anyway, and everyone's entitled to an opinion. And given the proximity of the CECC to the downtown area, how do you really propose having a cloud of dust (remember Ground Zero?) envelop this building with poor ventilation (remember people choking on the Ops Floor because of a nearby fire?), yet clinging to your console and dispatching through the radio system that is frequently problematic or inoperable (remember getting switched to CityWide 6?) and fails when there hasn't been widespread devastation? Or do you not have family that holds you near-and-dear, or vice versa?

Hey blog jockey. Listen up. Hit that Second City Cop link you talk about and see how classy and reverant they were for today's posting. It is entitled "Where Were You?" Take a peek and learn a lesson. They did it with class. Unfortunately, you did it like trash and proved we are second to them again. Thanks a bunch.

You're more than welcome. Since when do we represent the thoughts and beliefs of every OEMC Ops Floor employee? And while you're reading us the riot act and telling us about ourselves, try to keep in mind that the same reverent (that's with e's and no a) blog you laud had a single post a few months ago that did more disjustice to you (since we apparently speak for you) than this whole blog ever will.

This blog has become nothing more than a gossip tabloid, and is no longer a catalyst for positive change, if it ever even was one.

Somehow we agree. We don't recall the informative or throught-provoking topics, there must not have been any. Therefore, they can't have been the bulk of what we've posted, since the blog is a "gossip tabloid."

We don't recall seeing more than one e-mail suggesting topics for discussion, either, which we assume didn't come from you. And that would be in spite of the repeated request that people do such. We (as a whole) post pertinent topics. Commenters have turned comments sections 180 degrees from where we started. We should censor them?

What next, fall wardrobe suggestions? Jessica and Nick sightings? Favorite CD's? Dating your sister's boyfriend, scandalous or convenient? You are really reaching blogmaster.

We aren't reaching any more than you did with that extremist implication that we've ever posted (or ever will post) something that isn't related to the job by any stretch of the imagination. We stick with our take that if people had any topics they thought were better, they were free to e-mail us with them.

Apologize to the fallen heroes for posting such trivial nonesense on this sacred day

Sarcasm aside, we can admit to errors in judgment. Which we do here. We don't regret the post itself (it was legitimately requested by a reader), but in retrospect, we do see a flawed decision on timing and should have been more respectful of those who gave/lost their lives on 11Sep01 and gave countless hours of their own time to restore sanity and order in the weeks and months thereafter. Our rant (it is our view/opinion, which we're entitled to) could have waited for another day.

I'm pissed!!! Who in the hell was driving ambulance 50 tonight? All night long they drove up and down the streets with the sirens blarring as if to say "If I have to be up all night, so do they"? How do I go about making a formal complaint? It's not every night that this happens. I do understand that sirens are needed, sometimes but expecially not heading back to the fire house!! Besides, the streets were almost empty so what's the point?? I say it's just because the driver of ambulance 50 was being an ass!!

Not too hard to tell when someone works at OEMC, is it? Just goes to show you that you can't please everyone.
9/11 shouldn't be this abstract day once a year when we remember the Americans who died senselessly and the people who worked so hard to save them and all their help in the weeks after. It's not Christmas... you should remember every day by showing your flag, supporting your troops, and doing all that other good stuff to fight terrorism and everything else that threatens us here on home soil.
My hats off to you CPDDispatch. You took the intiative and came up with a decent blog spot and maintain it regularly. I couldn't devote that much time to this place. So you screwed up a little and didn't run a post on 9/11. It happens. I would think with everyone else posting you just forgot. But that doesn't mean you don't care about those fallen Americans. It's was a mistake. Thanks for addressing that mistake and apologizing for it. I say you're ok in my book. And thanks for giving us our own site to rant on.

Who posted that crap about those 4 criminals? I call them that because they should be ashamed to call themselves police officers. They are exactly where they belong.

Criminals are not criminals til proven guilty in a court of law!!
Give them a break will you ?
Let's see how much " evidence " they have against them in trial,

whoa lighten up people!! no one has a lock on how 9-11 should be observed and since when is it wrong for ANYONE, let alone CITY employees who are allegedly part of the "trifecta" of first responders (CPD: CFD: OEMC)to question city preparedness? As we have seen from both 9-11 and Hurricane Katrina, tragic events produce both heros and cowards in almost equal numbers (recall that New Orleans PD had over a third of its sworn member MIA in the aftermath of the hurricane). The media, and human nature, however, are naturally gravitating toward the positive spin after such events. But those of us in the know at OEMC--and elsewhere--in the city know that the city is FAR from being prepared. The true fact is that if Chicago were attacked, or suffered a natural calamity, those dedicated members of EVERY department would step up to the plate IN SPITE of, not because of, the city's best efforts (or lack thereof) for response. And that says alot more about the individuals than the departments they represent.
It is our DUTY as citizens, taxpayers, and employees to note deficiencies in the systems and point them out Unfortunately, those in the know dont want to know--sad state that mirrors governement at every level, regardless of political party or affiliation. So please, lets not start questioning one anothers loyalty, patriotism, or motives.

..let alone CITY employees who are allegedly part of the "trifecta" of first responders (CPD: CFD: OEMC)...

First responders are people first on the scene, such as police officers, firefighters & emergency medical personnel. Dispatchers are not considered first responders under any definition.

The City of Chicago, under Cortez Trotter as Executive Director or OEMC (preceding his tenure as Fire Commissioner and prior to the Huberman reign), moved to include the OEMC into the definiton of "first responders". While this was done initially to accommodate his "EM TEAM" (his definition) of "elite, mostly civilian personnel", who would presumably RESPOND to a scene (and which actually did go to a few sites, including E2 and the Lincoln Park porch collapse, among others) and aid emergency services, lend support and services, and coordiante logistics to CFD and CPD, it also brought dispatch and calltaking operations under the same umbrella of "first responders" in this sense. As a result, with the citys blessing (read, Mayor Daley), the OEMC was defined to be a part of that trifecta of first responders, even though dispatchers and calltakers were not physically responding to any incident. Because Trotter was the head honcho, and the mayoral go to guy, the OEMC was understood to be "first among equals" in this equation, with the JOC, the JIC, and other support structures on site at OEMC and in the field courtesy of OEMC and homeland security money. Furthermore, the logic under this scenario goes, civilian calltakers would be the first "link" in pinpointing patterns, cluster occurrences, and information gathering--all critical in identifying where emergency services and resources would be deployed.
So maybe "first responder" is not technically accurate (that does seem to be a term that ought to be reserved for those on site of an incident) for civilian dispatchers and calltakers: however these people who handle intake of calls and radio traffic during coordination of emergency incidents deserve similar respect and reverence. On 9-11 some of the most professional, dedicated--mostly forgetten--heros were those who rendered aid and comfort to doomed victims inside the towers and on the planes (recently released audiotapes of many last conversations prove this point).

It's so hard to see fellow officers allegedly involved in such activities.
Unfortunately, this only makes it even more difficult for the rest of us. The public now views us all as rogue criminals with badges. The majority of CPD Officers are hard working, honest Policemen! I wish the rest of you would take into consideration the lasting damage that you not only do to yourself, your family and the department, but also the way Judges, Lawyers, Jurors etc ....will look at Police Officers who may be testifying about a case which may seem to civilians as questionable. The drug dealer who dropped the sack of rocks or who threw the gun etc... This now puts more credibility in the favor of the bad guys. The effects of these guys actions will linger in the minds of people for quite some time. This is all a game. The bad guys lawyers will now use things like this as a basis for a defense for their "innocent" clients !! Meanwhile, any "thug" drug dealer involved in what probably were legitimate good arrests, will now not only go free, but sue the city for millions and of course the city will settle! It's a damn shame. GOD BLESS THE CPD and protect all our brothers!!!!!!!!! BE SAFE
