For all of those who float

For people who don't have regular zones that they work, have you ever noticed that cops from north side districts seem to be more polite, in general? We're not saying they're better cops by any means, we realize that politeness doesn't equate with "good police work." But we have heard from many a dispatcher who works a north side zone and is amazed by the differences in etiquette when working south side zones, and many a dispatcher who works a south side zone and is amazed by the differences in etiquette when working a north side zone.

I don't know what zone you work but I am a PO on a south side zone and we're nice to our regular dispatchers because they are nice to us. However some of the temps who bounce over to the zone when the regulars are away treat us like shit so we do the same in return. Plain and simple we treat our dispatchers like we want to be treated until they show us they don't deserve our respect.

Could it be that the south side works harder and is under more stress because of the backlogs facing them? Just thinking....

Police politeness is evident when the dispatcher handles him or herself professionally and without the 'attitude' projected in the voice over the air. I have worked all zones and have never had a problem. When I have sensed an attitude from the officer, I never take it personally.........the way I look at it, he/she is out on the street dealing with all that crap and it will take its toll on them.
I just do my best, add a little humor when possible, admit my errors, and thank the Lord at the end of my tour that all the officers get home safe at the end of theirs!

I guess if I wrote parkers all day and had nothing to do but el checks and mingle with all those yuppies on the north side , never got shot at or had to chase someone I would be in a good mood too. Let them work a busy south or west side district and then see how good of a mood there in.

I float on 3rd watch, and I've noticed some north side cops are quicker to give you an attitude when you give them jobs... even on the beat.

squad, am I the only one working tonight?
dude... they're on your beat... 3 whole parkers... I'm sure you can handle it.

At the same time, I do believe a lot of what you get back from the police on the street is what you give them. If you're professional, sound good, and wanna have fun, I think that comes over in your voice. I do think the bosses on the south side let you get away with more "illegal stuff" on the air then on the north side though.

You might not know, but the northside coppers actually key their mic's with their pinky finger raised. Some are starting to sport English accents, also, but the female northside P/O's...Leather, cuffs, duct taper all the way!

Listen tough guy alot of us came from west and south side districts, the difference is we were smart enough to know when to bid out and give service to people who appreciate it and our efforts. Some day you may figure it out and do the same. 13 yr vet.

Hey, what's up with the first watch dispatchers????

You guys need some coffee or somethin?

It never fails that as soon as the 1st watch crew signs on, the responses for name/plate checks gets ten times slower. And sometimes I get no response at all! I usually just end up clearing the job and letting the possible warrant go. I normaly use my PDT for that stuff, but unfortunately I haven't gotten my hands on a working one in weeks (not your fault, I know. For that I blame my dickless Commander) However, 3rd watch is usually quick to respond.

I'm just sayin I would appreciate at least an update letting me know that you still know I'm out there, because I'm the one working by my self in the projects with a car full of gangbangers stopped at 11:30 at night, not you. Please pass the word on to fellow 1st watchers. We just want to go home at the end of the night, ok?
