More changes on the way?

The end of an era? According Sneed's column in yesterday's Sun-Times:

Gov. Blagojevich is this/close to hiring Andrew Velasquez, the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications chief, in an effort to beef up the state's homeland security.

• • Addendum: But it won't happen until after the mayoral election Tuesday.
The winds of change are blowing. We wonder if we should "be afraid, be very afraid" of who'll take his place, and how clueless that person might be about what it takes to do our jobs. We're sure that it will be someone else who's never worked Communications a day in his life.

A reader at Let's Talk Chi Town 911 has a different take, though, and ponders whether "Our Fearless Leader" who just got demoted and sent across the hall could be up for the spot next. OldSchoolCOS, the blogmaster there, asks:

Does anyone else really think there is a chance "she" left one spot to take the bigger spot? Is this the 'ol saying, the joke is on us?
We truly hope not. Even if for the sake of the city because of the sudden spike in resignations within 6 months of that appointment. People aren't sticking around for that.

You think we were miserable when she was Acting Deputy Director?????? We don't advocate job action (it's disallowed by our contract). But if she were to get that job, PCOs at the side door would be like a herd of cattle busting out of the gates.

Just Curious.... Thinking back on past Executive Directors, I was trying to see if I could name all of them, along with the time they served.... Correct me if I'm wrong, or forgetting anybody :

When our building first opened, Sept, 1995, William Corbett was the "head of the 911 Center" also he was referred to as "The 911 Project Team Coordinator". I'm not sure if the exact title of "Executive Director" was even made up yet at that point.

Next there was Greg Bishop, named as Acting Exec. Dir in July 1999, and as official Exec. Dir. in May 2000. Unfortunately, He died in May 2001. He was a Great Man!

Then there was Cortez Trotter named in 2001, and served as Exec Dir. of the OEMC until April 2004.

Ron Huberman replaced Trotter in May 2004. He was the Exec. Dir for only one year; until May 2005.

Leaving us with Andrew Velasquez III, appointed in June 2005.

....and who will be next ???

And speaking of past Executive Directors ... Who can name all the past Deputy Directors of Police Operations >> ???

"Skip" Funk, Tom Folliard, Robert Cornfield, Jerry Robinson, (Acting) Marista Keating and now Ron Simmons.

But in what order did they serve?

Wasn't Funk executive director too...he was only around for a short time too.

Seems like a lot of people use this place as a resume padder and move on up to the State or Federal level.

I think "Skippy" came after Corbett and before Bishop.

As far as the Commander Police Operations...later changed to Deputy Director...Jerry Robinson was the first...he came from the "old room" too. Then Cornfield, Folliard, Anderson, Keating and now Simmons...

Robinson and Cornfield were the only "Sworn" after that it became a civilian title.

Karen, I think you're right about Funk being an Exec Dir between Corbett and Bishop, and it was a VERY short time he was here.

And when Folliard came over, had he already retired from the CPD ? He served in Civ capacity? He was awesome- very down to earth guy, very personable!! He'd see ya at Ira's and talk to you like you were a real person. He didnt talk down to you.

(I also forgot about Anderson - Completely Forgot! Imagine that!!)

I think we are leaving out Mark Davis. Wasn't he the last sworn commander we had? He lasted less than a year. There was also a really short timer. A tall white guy with a mustashe that DN and Lt Dieserhorst worked for. Can't remember his name.

1203 am and kmart:

WHAT? Awesome? People person? Personable? Are you talking about TF? Old T is slick alright. He fooled you and many, many others. He's nothing more than a street educated con man. T never met an ass he wouldn't kiss if there was something in it for him. He is a true politician. He's a big, big bull shitter and an even bigger player. He was only with us long enough to scam a couple of paychecks, maybe a few more, and tickle IM a few times, and just because he stared into your drunken eyes at Ira's and talked nice to you on the ops floor, he was a great guy? Girls, quit thinking with your private parts. He blew out of town by his choice and left us in the dust because CT would not kiss his privileged ass. TF had no choice but to ask questions and listen and learn because he was never in the old room at any level. TF didn't know diddly about our jobs. And didn't care about us enough to stick around and help us out. Remember, his exit brought us MA and MK. He punked out and we gained a huge 5 year long headache, which is finally over, no thanks to TF.

Thank you 12:03 am! Everyone is talking like TF is the second coming and from what I heard all he did was shop for p*ssy on the floor. He was only there for three months! You all are talking like he was been there for years! Just because he was a drunk at Ira's doesn't mean that made him a good boss. So what if he talked to you at a bar! Would that have made our working conditions better? And it's true that MK came under Trotter's administration so we have to give a big thanks to him for leaving us with her terrible rein!

3:19, thats pretty f'd up. If he kissed CT's butt, are you saying that would have been in your interest? In the organization's interest?

And when he left, he's to blame because CT then allowed MK into her acting position, so that's somehow TF's fault?

I think what you are saying could be interpreted as "it would have been better if TF had stayed and helped"! But you still manage to couch that as criticism.

The guy is a good guy. You are, of course, right, about his lack of a communications background. Same as Trotter, Funk, Robinson, and all kinds of others. Said it before and I'll say it again. The only two who ever belonged there were Bishop and Funk.
