Employee parking revisited revisited revisited

In case you don't read, or you wander blithely through life not paying attention to those things which stare you in the face, there are new signs placed at eye level yesterday on the building's west entry/exit doors. Starting on 01March07 (and actually sporadically until then), there will be parking enforcement in our lot. We've gone for years without it.

Are they going to go after people without permit stickers in their windows? Or are they going to go after people who park in the aisles (and anyplace else they can fit) because there literally are no available spaces in the parking lot?

Can't wait to see what 01March brings.

UPDATE: From an anonymous poster:

I have seen people exit that condo building across the street from the guard shack, walk right into the lot with no problem, and get in their cars and leave.
Has anyone else ever seen this? We haven't personally witnessed it, but wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

Who posted those signs? On whose authority is there going to be "parking enforcement in our lot"?

Maybe that could be one of the new Dep Director's projects: looking into just who the hell is taking up all the parking spaces!!
Maybe those officers sitting in the "security booth" shouldn't be letting EVERYONE drive into our lot.
Stop letting in people who DON'T have proper permits.
Stop letting in those TMA's who don't even work IN our building (they just show up to check in, or get their checks, or yellow glowing vests, or whatever it is that they do).
Stop letting people in with out-of-state plates!!

No wonder when 3rd watch starts showing up between 1:00-1:30pm there are literally NO spaces left to park. That is the Worst Time of Day as far as parking is affected. It's really pathetic.

So I'm really curious how this parking thing is going to be "enforced " come March 1st !!

Part of the problem too, is that there are just SO MANY people who work in our building now...it's not like it was in the "old days" when it was RARE to pass someone in the halls/elevators/bathrooms and NOT know who they were. These days everybody and their brother (and sister, god-mother and half-niece twice removed) has been packed into offices in our building, whether from streets and san, to TMAs, to all the OEM people. Oh, wait except for our own personnel/payroll department, the one office that was there to serve US...THEY get moved somewhere else, real smart move!!! (Insert sarcasm here) Seriously, I think even if they DID get rid of all those trucks and stationary squad cars (how long have all those vehicles been hibernating in the back of the lot now anyway??) there probably STILL wouldn't be enough places to park when 3rd watch arrived around 1300-1330 hours.

Hey, that is as good a reason as any to bring back the power watches. Staggered starting times would greatly ease the amount of vehicles in the lot at any given time. A large part of this parking problem began in January 2005 when everyone got dumped onto the three watches. Now, I KNOW power watches are a faint memory and there is virtually no chance of getting them back. But I can have fond memories...

we were told by mr oaks today in roll call that the security in the parking lot and in the building are on lite duty and are not mandated to ck or write tickets. We were also told that 3rd watch should start parking in the alternate lot on madison/odgen and no there would be no security there for us nor our cars. But that he cared about us its the others that dont care. And if we do park in the isles we would be ticketed an towed, and that we can not go to roll call and then come down after 2nd watch leaves to move our cars they can never be in the isle spots there will be no waiting.

Sgt Oakes addressed 3rd watch rc
today regarding the parking lot, and how they hate to do it but they're going to enforce city stickers and legal plates ! NO SHIT SHERLOCK! don't think he even knows about our 911 window sticker that we were referring too. Also we can park in the alternate lot on the nwx of Ogden/Madison. No security for us, no weapon, no problem walking to a desolate parking lot at 2030 hrs 0000, 0400, 0600 hrs in the winter. When one of us is knocked over the head, or worse yet raped maybe then we can have a secure lot. Does everyone fail to remember on the 4th floor the only reason they have a job is because of the calltakers and dispatchers?
We are the communictations center. Not radio main, not tmas, not homeland, its' US! We are the blood line from the citizen to the working cpd and fire staff. Maybe it's time we show them who we are.
Follow the rules to calltaking and dispatching to the letter of the law. Don't skip or bend the rules. Follow every caps order and sop out there!
ps make sure you park in front of a tma vehicle too, since their bosses are out there belching in the face of a dispatcher and the other tmas surrounded her in the lot, all ready to get a tow truck, when she parked in a legal spot in front of one of their vans! Fuck them too. Who the fuck do they think they are!?!

That Oakes guy is an ass. He totally dodged the issue that Ms Gesiakowski was bringing up with him, about what is Management going to do about all the cars in the lot that DON'T BELONG THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.??? When asked about enforcing the 911 stickers being on the cars, he acted like he didnt know what we were talking about, and kept referring to City of Chgo vehicle stickers. Come on, is he that stupid? Many other people brought up many other valid points: Get the cars out of the lot that don't belong there, and that WOULD open up a lot of spaces for us to park, Install a security gate at the entrance to the lot, that would force you to use your OEMC swipe card to gain access to our lot, Enforce the 911 sticker being on ALL our cars. That's 3 suggestions right there, there were more.

It seemed to me that the only solution to the problem that HE was offering, was for 3rd watch to park in that alternate lot. Well, I'll tell ya right now, there's no way in HELL I'm parking over there, and jepoardizing MY own safety walking to / from work!!!

The only thing I agreed with Mr Oakes about was the fact that no one but handicapped people should be parking in handicap spots!! AND that the main aisles need to be clear so CFD equip can get in, if necessary.

Why cant the tmas and equip park in the alternate lot? They all drive together in a van anyways !
Who the heck is Tony's towing that they get to park a tow truck with no address except for Chicago, IL on the side door, for a week in our lot ???? We need a newspaper report to read our blog.. trust me if you print up anything in our defense I will personally throw you meat that a lion would be envious of .

Oakes came into the room with a sh**ty attitude...and it just went downhill from there. What cracked me up was how he was trying to INSIST that it is not JUST 3rd watch personnel that has to deal with the parking problem, it's all the watches...YEAH RIGHT!! When 1st watch arives, there is plenty of available parking. When 2nd watch arrives there is plenty of available parking. Just because some of their lazy people CHOOSE not to park in a legal space does not mean that they don't have the option! 3RD WATCH DOES NOT HAVE AN OPTION!!!!! And he just could not grasp the concept that people were trying to make! KG was right on the money pointing out the fact that on weekends and holidays, we do not have a problem. Can't understand that either Mr Oakes??? All the useless 4th floor "elite" people are not there on weekends and holidays, so ta da!!! We lowly operations floor employees have parking!!And how many handicapped people do we have working in the whole building? Probably way more than eight or ten, which is around how many spots are available for them. I could not understand how callous he was to KO's comment about not wanting to walk to that secondary lot at ten o'clock at night..."were you promised a place to park when you contracted to work here?" No concern about women's safety, nothing! OK, so maybe it is a bit much to actually expect him to care, but jeez, at least fake it and ACT like you care!!!

Why don't we start writing to/froms for every car you walk past when you park that does not have our lot sticker in the front windshield. Give the make model and plate number. Request that mgt have the car moved. Keep a copy for yourself, you know how they have a habit of losing things.

While I understand and feel your pain (tust me-The other end of the radio sucks too). She is hell bent on taking the test and I'm just the messenger asking the question. I tried to explain the "behind the scenes" crap we all deal with and I have to say I kinda expected these responses.

But seriously, do you guys have a personnel sect.?

bo came to talk to us and you treated him like shit. he didn't have to be there. and do you recall he said that parking was not an issue he wanted to tackle, but CFD and ADA had to have access. Guess you forgot that part.

To the 3rd watch PO from zone 10:

As far as I know, there isn't any news of the City holding a Dispatcher test anytime soon. Your friend can go to City Hall, and fill out an application in person, or I'm pretty sure can go to the City of Chgo website, and do so online. They used to accept online applications, I'm not positive if they still do or not. And Good Luck to your friend.

to 2:20 PM

As I said before (I originally posted at 9:58 AM)...B.O. walked into our roll call room with a sh**ty attitude, and he showed nothing but contempt for the fact that he was there in the first place. He walked into the room, held up a copy of the order HE had typed up and posted on the parking lot exit doors and stated "I'm here to take my lumps about THIS..." We did not ask him to be there, in fact, I'm quite sure many of our co-workers would be grateful if they never have to cross his path ever again. He did not come into that room a nice guy trying to solve a genuine problem, he came in there ready to argue, and while I may not condone the way some of the employees acted toward him, his obvious disregard of our opinions and legitimate questions was down right asinine. "Parking not an issue he wanted to tackle..."?? Oh, I'm sorry, but his job title is "Managing Deputy Director" so I think issues that affect people who work in the building he "manages" should be addressed by his highness. And as far as him being "the only 4th floor employee that will even talk to us"...well I for one am not heartbroken over that. Someone once posted that the only reason those 4th floor employees HAVE a job is because of us on the operations floor (11:50 PM). Truer words were never spoken. OEC used to be a great place to work. God I miss those days.

If I had a camcorder and a whiz on the computer, I'd be out there making a clip to post on YouTube!
How about some photos & story to Sun-Times how the 911 Center , built for cpd & cfd communications is now being packed like sardines with the addition of TMA's, S&S, Water Dept, and GOD knows who else they have snuck into OUR building! And they want to ticket & tow OUR cars! Is this the biggest f***ing joke of the year?

You all sound like a bunch of spoiled little kids you judt had your favorite toy taken away. There is nothing in any city personal contract that guarantees that you would have a place to park. Like driving, parking for free is a privilege. Why dont you complain to your fellow workers who take up two parking spaces every day parking there cars, cause they thing they are special. As long as the city has complete control over that property the decide who can park in that lot. Be careful you dont piss off the wrong people and they start to charge you to park in the lot. What's done is done, so get over it.

Yes yes yes! I have seen many a yuppie and her children park in the lot, w/ Macys bags in tow, casually stroll past the guard shack w/o a wink. I wanted to scream @ them, but they would probably try to get a CI on me, just like all the yuppies in the city who don't get their way.

I'M SO TIRED OF MY COWORKERS ACTING LIKE THE TMA'S DON'T WORK WITH US. WELL YOU KNOW WHAT ASSHOLE, YOU PROBABLY DON'T EVEN COME TO WORK HALF THE TIME. I'M SURE NOT ON TIME WHEN U DO FINALLY GET YOUR LAZY ASS UP. JUST BECAUSE TMA'S DON'T MAKE OUR GRAND SALARY. DON'T MEAN THEY DON'T VALUE THEIR JOBS, FAMILIES AND VEHICLES LIKE US. SO STOP ACTING LIKE $75,000 (FROM OVERTIME) IS A LOT OF MONEY CAUSE IT AIN'T. YOU STILL SIGNING UP FOR OVERTIME-JACKASS.
