New Superintendant

Blogmaster welcomes Jody Weiss, the new CPD superintendant. As the titular head of OEMC/Homeland Security, Blogmaster has more than a passing interest in the new sups intentions and actions. Just what the new guy has in store is anyone's guess, but based on his appearance before the city council, the OEMC might not expect many changes, at least initially. He stated that his "underlings" would continue to run homeland security and Blogmaster presumes that is where the OEMC still figures in the scheme of things. For now, Blogmaster presumes, that means no change in day to day operations under current ED Ruiz.

That is unfortunate. Blogmaster was rather looking forward to an outsider's inside perspective on OEMC operations. A former g man with pristine credentials and a high security clearance related to his former role in various aspects of law enforcment, Weiss might be able to lend some REAL credence to the OEMC and its fledgling "homeland security" operations. The fact that Weiss is beholden to no one--not even the mayor, once he is confirmed by city council--means that he would be able to really shake things up. The current leaders appear to be too anemic to do more than opine occasionally that more 911 operations staff might be useful.

A new leader might actually be able to articulate a vision for OEMC that encompasses both 911 operations and homeland security as integrated operations. A new leader might develop a mission statetment for the OEMC that provides a foundation and a philosophy for all employees to embrace. A new leader might go before the public and explain that cpd, and the city, cannot meet all their demands all the time. A new leader would be able to initiate a real comprehensive public education campaign with the ultimate goal of decreasing non essential calls to 911 and preparing citizens for inevitable calamities, either manmade or natural. Blogmaster longs for the day when some of the homeland security money which flows through OEMC trickles down to operations for training, equipment, and technology. But most of all, Blogmaster wants a real leader who will acknowledge that alot of us at OEMC are burned out and that we are understaffed, underutilized, and improperly managed. We want a real leader who we can RESPECT.

It is always interesting how the heart holds out hope that someoneone new will come in and rescue us from our misery and recognise what a swell bunch of people we are and reward us for our years of putting up with bad management, short staffing and all its problems, abuse from egotistical managers who forget where they came from, etc. etc. etc.
WAKEUP!!! No one cares about us and it is naive to think so. Keep that thought and you won't be disappointed when we are forgotten again as usual. Any one seen JA laltely???????

Yeah, ED Ruiz has his thumb on him to make sure he doesn't do anyting to help us out and screw up his master plan of devistation and destruction that he's pursuing now

You are 100% correct. He's being a good boy and pushing paperwork so he can keep his name out of the calamity that's going on around here so he doesn't have to look for another job like all the others that are going to go down with the current king on the throne when he is finally beheaded. If you need something from him go up and see him or call Fran. I'm sure he will help you out if he can.

Heard he's one of several getting the short end of the stick when it comes to dealing with Ruiz which is odd since they used to work closely together when they both were on the second floor a few short years ago before Ruiz was sent to Streets & San. Oh well, I guess it's true that anyone who knew Ruiz when he was here for his first tour of duty notes a colossal change in both his attitude and scruples this time around

Any kind of power goes straight to some peoples heads and what's right and reasonable goes right out the window. However, as it has been said before, this too shall pass.

Why so rough on the new guy? Ever stop and think perhaps he's doing the best he has the ability to do and understand? After all, some folks are not as smart as you think they are.

What Ruiz is really thinking when he is speaking to his staff and the media....

People like you are the reason people like me need medication

My parents said I could be anything, so I decided to become an asshole

Do all jobs suck or just mine

When I "snap" you'll be the first to go

Shut up voices or I'll poke you with a q-tip again

Do I want fries with that

Off topic: Now that the AM Power dispatchers were asked "What zone(s) do you want to do relief on?" will the zones be given the same oportunity to get asked "Who do you want to do your reliefs?"

Also off topic..but SERIOUSLY
what is up with all the shoes laying around in the women's locker room. It's getting ridiculous. There's got to be at least 20 pairs of shoes just laying around all the time. Take your crap home or put it in your locker.

ALSO off topic:

How about a post on how asinine that new gate is at the entrance of the parking lot...

First of all, it is stupid that we should have to show an OEMC id badge to get into the lot, why doesn't a 911 parking sticker on my vehicle suffice? AND how about the fact that I am wearing a UNIFORM? Granted, since us lowly PCOs are the ONLY people who even wear a uniform in this place anymore, it SHOULD be obvious that we WORK here and CAN park in the lot! It's not like the new "show your badge rule" is keeping unauthorized vehicles out of the lot, anyway.

And seriously, WHY aren't those traffic management authority vehicles and/or streets and san trucks required to park in that alternate lot over on Ogden/Ashland?

PLUS, you'd think when they installed that wonderful new guard shack , they would have thought to bury a sensor in the ground just before the exit gate, so when a car drives up to the gate it would automatically open and allow us to leave, just like the big fancy parking garages downtown. That way we wouldn't have to wait for the guard to wake up and let us out.

OK, I'm done venting. Have a nice day!

Actually I do believe the ID thing is working. Not that I'm a fan of fighting with a call back copper because with my uniform on I can't seem to rustle through my purse fast enough to find my id's. Personally know someone who was NOT an employee but a family member of a worker from another floor, who would go visit for lunch and was not allowed in the lot. There also appears to be more available spots.. yes still way in the back row but available again.
We have to pick our battles and the battle only really affects the 3rd watch parking situation.
If we went strickly by stickers, the days you had to borrow a car to get to work you wouldn't be let in until you got a temporary pass from 4th flr. and would still be complaining that they didn't let you in without your sticker while you had to get a temp sticker. Give it a chance to work, let's see come this summer.
Whoever suggested and automated exit gate, that sounds like a great idea, they're going to be working on the lot again in the near future, let the director know so he can implement it.

Re parking lot postings.....the
3rd watch still has several assanines.....they don't even drive around to find a spot. They just pull up into the curb lanes along north end by fence, the center lane , and of course around the bend to the south! And if you are there to see who the drivers are, same repeat offenders , lazy bums! Today is Sunday , plenty of room , but still when we left , at least 8 cars "illegally" parked !

You don't need to get a temporary parking pass from the 4th floor. I got one last year right from the Ops floor office, from a secretary.

Thanks for the correction on the
temp pass, things changed since the last time I needed one was 8 years ago. Maybe it's time for a new car.
Now let me correct my previous statement. People will still complain about not being let into the lot with a borrowed vehicle, while they run to the ops floor to get a temporary pass to be let into the lot.

Ever notice that it's the same mopes who park illegally that walk around and complain to their posse that the bosses are picking on them.

Do those same mopes waddle when they walk?? I, for one, park as far across the lot as I can, not only to get a bit of exercise coming and going, but to try & save my vehicle from YET another ding in my door. I also forego the elevator and walk up & down the stairs. I got tired of having to stop from 1 to mezz level with the lazies.
