Winds of change?

Someone in the comments section asked about the quietly-kept upcoming Watch Manager promotions, and who's getting the job. The Ops Floor as a whole seems to be pleased with the rumored choices. But we won't add to the rumor mill on that one.

Word that "Our Fearless Leader" is on the way out? Can it be true?

Supervisor bids open (closing on 03Oct06). How many are they hiring? That one brings up another e-mail from a reader:

Subject: Supervisor Applications
To: "ChicagoDispatchBlog"

Not my idea.........but love this one! Co-worker said, "let's ALL apply for the position and make them deal with ALL that paperwork, scheduling of test dates/times, etc!".
If only we could get 100% co-operation on this one....................tooooooooo funny!

Funny. Would they all have to go to the OEMC Personnel section getting moved away from our building? (Just keep the address out of the comments section, no security compromises)

But we hear that there are many changes on the horizon. We just hope it's a positive transition for all. Maybe OEMC Administration is finally making moves in the right direction, instead of putting all of its stock and faith in a person whose main objectives were to justify her position and screw the working stiffs.

I said it before and I will say it again. You are correct, big changes comming.

It has been known for a long time that the way the OEC is structured is not working for the Chicago POLICE Dept.

The command staff at 35th St. are in meetings every day this week to turn this dog and pony show around.

The next boss at OEC will be a Commander. There will be three watch Lts. and several watch Sgts.

The floor supervisors will report to the Sgts.

Any new dispatchers will be trained by sworn personell not by civians who dont know what they are doing and dont like the POLICE.

Remember OEC is there to support the POLICE, not the other way around.

Also being considered is a least one sworn member on each zone.

Now tell me I dont know what I am talking about, come on I know you will. Just remember this post when your standing in the uneployment line wondering what the fuck happened.

Ha ha, you are a funny little man. Dispatchers tell sergeants what to do almost univerally in Chicago. You think there are more than 10 sergeants in the entire city who would have a clue how to supervise a dispatcher?

At the top of your food chain over the last 15 years you have had Richie's babysitter, a drunk, a mumbling idiot and Jenny Craig's worst nightmare. The city has taken at least communications and traffic away from you. Your ultimate boss is bossed by Cortez Trotter for crissakes.

Yup, the braintrust at 35th street is thinkin up a storm how to get dozens of POs back inside the OEMC.

I know, I know, don't feed the trolls. But this was just too good to pass up the opportunity to (once again) point out how the CPD is the laughingstock of the nation's police departments.

Um....what in the world are you smoking? I know of no sergeant that lets a dispatcher tell them their job.

>>Um....what in the world are you smoking? I know of no sergeant that lets a dispatcher tell them their job. <<

Ha ha, you ARE a funny little man. Can I get a sergeant to monitor this chase? How about a sergeant to authorize holding jobs? Sergeant, take the xxx at yyy. ZZZZ, what's your status? Sergeant, take this request for [you] at yyyy... wanna meet with aaaa first (they were assigned there for a domestic half an hour ago).

Sergeants are supposed to be the day-to-day decision makers in the field on the job. If there are more than 10 (the ones I'm thinking about) in the entire city doing their job (or who even KNOW their job) with respect to communications, emergency management and/or CAPS, than someone should give them a radio so we can hear them.

It really is that simple. As a group, they don't even do their job
on the street with respect to communications. Yeah, the city REALLY wants them up on 3 at 1411 supervising the dispatchers.

No offense pal, but the CPD bosses are a bunch of little handpuppets for the Chicago democrats. They trust you guys to make no waves, and they have not expanded the authority of the CPD in more than a decade.

I can just imagine Superintendent fatso waddling up to the mayor hat-in-hand. Uhm, yes boss, I'd like to place some of MY experts up at 1411. No really, whats so funny? >sniff< Boss, that's not nice. Are those bagels over there? Mind if I grab one? Haven't eaten in 20 minutes. What were we talking about again?

I want to know why poster 748 thinks we all hate the police and don't know what we are doing? We are/were forced to do stuff that we know goes against common sense and officer safety and all of this was implemented by a p.o., yes a po who as a civilian ran the building [walking around with his weapon in a holster, I wonder if he does that at ch ].I really do not think that CPD would be putting more of their personnel in that building. The po's who dispatched [or attempted too]used to have to go to 35/michigan and deal with the cr#s they got and other stuff as it was because there was no sgt's, lt's or commander at oec. They [CPD] want to stay as far away from 1411 as possible.I hope you guys get your wish and it will be great winds of change .I left there 8 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made...see I am out of my padded room now with access to a computer!
