We've been hiding, but

This topic brings us out.

Rumor has it that during yesterday's staff meeting, it was decreed that time due is to be denied across the board if anyone is working overtime on a shift.

For those who have more trouble comprehending basic notions and need everything spelled out:

  • If anyone is working an extension on your shift on tomorrow's date, that time due you put in for 11 months ago will be denied.

  • If anyone is working his/her RDO on your shift on tomorrow's date, that time due you put in for 11 months ago will be denied.

  • We can't confirm it - hence the word "rumor." Nor have we seen anything in writing stipulating such. But if it's true, we see a lot of misery in the future, at least more than there already is. Family functions? Fuck 'em. Need the day off because 6 days on-2 days off is wearing on you 3 months after furlough? Fuck it. At this point, you'll be feigning illness if you need the day off. That's the only way you're going to get it.

Okay, okay, you'll be feigning illness more often than you already do.

Surely you all realize that on any given day, on practically all three watches, someone is working overtime in some way, shape, or form. And all of this before the summer's even in full swing. So for them to tell us that time due will be denied if one soul is working on a shift at overtime pay, is basically to tell us that all of our time due is denied well in advance. If you're one of those who have literally hundreds of hours of compensatory time built up, consider thyself shat upon. You now have it for nothing. Indefinitely, or until City Hall hires enough PCOs to fully staff Operations, or until you retire and cash your hours out. We'd bet a whole paycheck on the latter coming first.

We anxiously await the comments that're sure to come on this post. And by the way, we appreciate the way you all have kept the comment sections decent in our absence (although we were still watching the whole time).

    We'll see you at work.

    Every day.

    Absolutely every day.

    For a long time.

YEP that is what we were told at roll call last night after RS and MD left the room after handing out a few awards.

NO time due period for the rest of the period.

Then like you said,if ANYONE is working ANY overtime, extentions, RDO or MANDATORY there will be no time due granted.

So,basically, since all three shifts ALWAYS hire at least a few people every day we will all be at work every day...unless you are really most sincerely sick or have a good doctor who will tell them that you are really most sincerely sick!

Glad I only have four more years before I can retire!

The bomb was dropped in 1st watch roll call. It's true, nothing in writing of course.

According the HC, the overtime budget is out of control (and someone just paid attention to this.....oh come now!!) And this is the way to limit overtime use.......HOGWASH!!!

As the Blogmaster says, there is not a single day that goes past that people are not hired back from the voluntary overtime sheets, because we are short staffed. Now to say that we cannot get any time due if even one person is hired is just pure b/s!

It's true. According to RS, this is coming from the bean counters at city hall. Of course, did he bother to tell them that the reason there is sooooo much overtime is because of them!! They refuse to get off their lazy butts and do some REAL hiring. The kind that would finally bring this place to a fully staffed level. While your telling them that, how about telling them the increasing call volume from year to year also might have something to do with the need for more people working to answer calls.

FOLLOW THE RULES ! ALL THE SOP'S !ALL OF THEM!
to the calltakers,, when you get a hangup call make sure you do your 2 CALLBACKS! EACH AND EVERY TIME!
WHEN YOU GET A BLANK HANGUP, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE TIME TO GENERATE AN EVENT FOR IT! (yes there is a written order on that)
to the dispatchers, make sure you do not stack more than the sop's read! NEVER EVER STACK MORE THAN 1 1A JOB! rap rap rap rap rap citywide
The calltakers are really going to get slammed this summer there is no contest, no monetary award for who takes the most million calls, make sure you take the time to proof and read back those addresses to the callers.
Dispatchers get over your guilt about someone may need the police out there, no one cares if you stroke out on the zone, follow caps, follow the rules! We need to follow the rules on all 3 watches !
When you get denied time due make sure a boss signs the pink slip and returns it to you SIGNED DENIED. Save it in your locker for future use. Stay tuned.

There goes the medical roll. What a bunch of morons we have in management. Do they not realize that now everyone will just go on the medical to get time off???

Now see how things are heard & said with different interpretations. In 2nd watch roll call it was explained that the "w/m cannot hire anybody for voluntary o.t. once he/she grants comp time on that day". So all those who like to work rdo's were aghast at this logic, thinking it was the "death" of working for big bucks on that 2nd rdo! Now after reading the post... this makes much more sense. Either way , we will get denied denied denied when asking for any amount of comp time , in the front, on the end, or the day!

Think we can get a big discounted rate from a doctor/shrink for all of us to use (as needed , of course) for the physical exhaustion & mental stress & break downs that surely will be happening this summer?

Ok so no voluntary overtime will be utilized if time due is granted or vice versa but what also was said is that of course mandatory ovetime will continue. Grievance? If I put in to work voluntary ot and they dont take me but they keep someone with less seniority for mandatory ?
    hhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm..................

Well they have to hire voluntary first.
Mandatory is the last resort, when all req from the present staff, then the volunteer lists are exhausted.
3rd watch rollcall says it's just to the end of the period which ends in 6 days. They didn't drop the bomb on us til after we were asked to volunteer to work lunch! City hall can't understand how we are giving time due, when hiring back, they don't believe we have a manpower shortage is the way it sounded. It was addressed in rc of being illogical to have people work lunches and tell cityhall we have our seats filled.
We asked to be mandated but I guess our coworkers just can't seem to figure that out when the boss at the end of rc gave us a way out to rescind our offers to voluntarily work lunches.

Is there ANY way to get these ignorant fucks from city hall down here to the 911 center physically? I understand everyone takes heat from a higher up regardless of where you work, but I want these dumb ass bean counters to look me in the eye and logically explain their side of the story. Daley can suck my ass.

can someone please tell me if jh on 2nd watch is ever going to sit her a%^ down in a chair, at a console and actually do a damn thing! How on earth does she get away with doing absolutely nothing? Management, supervisors, please, please look at her stats, watch her, that is if you can keep track of how fast she whizzes around the room!

    hey 16:03

now THAT would be a great survey...who is the biggest dog-ass on the ops floor...? Who basically steals a paycheck because he or she does little, if any work in an eight hour shift...? (and most of the worst offenders are the ones "working" earning overtime) I can only imagine the responses!!!

To the poster complaining about JH, you must be a call taker because if you were a dispatcher you would be thankful that she was walking around not taking calls so you wouldn't get any of her events sent to you.

when you're taking calls, is it so busy (and short handed) that you have calls waiting for you? you're so busy that it's call after call, then hours go by before you actually glance at the clock?

Also re JH...be glad you're not on the zone working with her! She keeps her foot on the peddle at all times , repeats everything 2 & 3 times (unnecessarily), I have heard a car or two tell her to shut up ......ON THE AIR! I almost fell out of my chair! And she has been dubbed the ten-foh pco2.... just listen up if she is on z12!

well hitting the medical 3 days for denial of one comp day would be grand if we had more than 12 med days a year

And not needing a doctor's note to be allowed to come back to work!

Me thinks I hear the tune "Blue Flu" about to play at the OEMC this lovely holiday week-end!

All the blue flu does is screw your co-workers. Management couldn't give a rat's ass if they have to mandate a whole watch into overtime because an exorbitant amount of people hit the medical.

My vote for the biggest dogass would be Mary Suarez-turner. She has an attitude and is totally useless. Dogass is a good description since her legs are as hairy as a st bernard's.
