We were prepared before?
Okay, so we're a couple of days late. We have lives, you know.
The Sun-Times reports that Cortez Trotter has resigned his position as "Chief Emergency Officer."
Ability to handle a disaster is in question with three top spots vacantWe must have missed something, then, because most of the people in Operations questioned the city's ability to "handle a disaster." One should have heard all the buzz around the floor about the Olympics bid, and how ill-prepared we'd be for organized chaos. The city has a few football fields to cover before it's close to being prepared for any disaster of sorts.
Remember Loopalooza? Or Loopzilla, or whatever it was called? Yeah, we barely remember it too, because not much mention of it was made at the job beforehand. And a walk through downtown during the night showed a lack of police coverage, which in turn means of a lack of communications coverage, failure on the part of the city [again] to prepare for a non-disaster.
Trotter's departure isn't going to change anything in terms of how prepared we are or aren't.
It's always been the latter.

Not only has Trotter left, they can't find anyone to take the helm of the OEMC. I don't know about you, but it sounds to me like we are working a cesspool caused by lack of knowledge of what really needs to be done here. Mismanagement, money has been wasted 2x's on the OC and they still don't function correctly (well, they have Marista as a boss now..so that ship is about sunk).
But hey, where your uniforms, look good for the visitors....we can continue to sham and fool 'em!
check the Sun-Times, Dana Starks is the front runner for OEMC executive director. they will probably give it to him to keep out of the running for the top cop job. I think we are fucked.
We take what the Sun-Times (and most media outlets, for that matter) says with a grain of salt.
According to what they said when Cline first announced his retirement, Huberman's already left his position as chief of staff and he's the present superintendent.
Starks will be making quarter million a year "double dipping". Well that would be enough for me to keep quiet with my chauffer and air conditioned office. Say no more, say no more.
what happened to brian murphy
Its Brian Oakes, and he will be the official translator for Starks.
Well this changes things!
It is Tony Ruiz as the Executive Director!!!
He has come a long way from the days of installing the fiber for ISCN.
guess starts didn't get the OEMC job...someone from within, who actually knows about the place got it...
"The Mayor also named Tony Ruiz Executive Director of the Office of
Emergency Management and Communications, where he worked for 12 years
before becoming First Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Streets
and Sanitation in 2005."
Who the hell is Tony Ruiz??? NEVER heard of him.
Tony used to be the guy in charge of ISCN... he actually knows how a communication center works from inside... and he is a nice guy... I sense good things could come from his run as the boss
Great news! Ruiz as the new Executive Director. It's about time Mayor Daley made the right choice! Ruiz was the top Deputy here at OEMC and he's suppose to be a technology genious.
So was Huberman.
And Huberwoman was the whole reason why the 911 center failed and plunged into darness that fateful July day in 2004.
I truly believe that.
