SPCO Meeting

The big, mandatory meeting of supervisors is over. It would seem, according to Blogmasters always reliable sources, that the suits are not pleased with present cirmcumstances on the operations floor. As a result, the suits have given orders to the spcos to "enforce" the rules and standards that everyone has acknowledged are sometimes a bit lax. In other words, folks, get ready for the big crackdown in real time. And lest anyone think this is another instance of a particular suit flexing for a moment, Blogmaster has learned that the spcos are not to be personally accountable for their subordinates according to rdos, ie, and have responsiblity for ensuring that each employee is properly uniformed, present and accounted for, and performing the duties of the job as opposed to sleeping, eating, talking on the cell phone or wandering.

Blogmaster has no objection to this in theory: it is what should already be occuring ANYWAY--it is true that the standards on the floor have been low, low, low for a long, long time. However, in times of high stress--current conditions with summer coming and the chronic short staffing that results in overtime, both mandatory and voluntary--some things are admittedly overlooked. Eating and using the cell phone at the console, for example, are not high transgressions when someone is sitting at the console for 7 1/2 or more hours a day, sometimes straight, in an effort to handle the call volume and dispatch jobs (which reflects on the watch manager).

All this tolerance, though, is about to end and its because--allegedly--a few pcos who were granted a private audience with the ed ruiz complained. They complained that the spcos were not doing their jobs, that they were failing in their duties, and that said rules were not being enforced. WTF? So in response to this, the deputy director of police operations who was present at the alleged meeting, felt compelled to make some changes in the name of accountability, hence the assignment of particular employees to particular spcos by rdo. It is about accountability, as they say. Be prepared, folks, for an influx of warnings about uniforms, smoke breaks, eating, and reading on the consoles. Be prepared, folks, for that day when breaks and lunches are cancelled and an spco comes over and tell an employees that their uniform shirt is untucked or to put away the puzzles. And to the union folks, be prepared for the influx of complaints about how such and such spco is picking on so and so, or nitpicking, or personally harassing someone for being ____ (insert race, gender etc).

In the interest of heading off any complaints, Blogmaster warns everyone, including the spcos to get the game on, use common sense, and band together. Don't say Blogmaster didn't warn everyone.

I have no problem with any/all rules, (necessary or silly) being totally enforced under one condition:

EQUALLY ACROSS THE BOARD (FLOOR) ON ALL WATCHES!

Here's a word to the wise: if your SPCO addresses you with 'a failure of xyz rule/regulation'..be sure to tell them to immediately address all the other pcos guilty of the exact same accusation. Then , if said SPCO refuses to do so , get that to/from or ci# rolling on the SPCO! Let the games begin!

Maybe this is all a dream , after all, it's Feb 29th.....only comes once every four years.

What a bunch of cry baby tattle tales.
You know if you get caught out of uniform, eating, chatting on the phone that you were wrong and oh well you got busted. Why must you then drag your coworkers into it too. Some co-workers can't get another ding, another ding might be suspension time, due to the frivilous way 4th flr has beenn handing out punishments.
Take the slap on the wrist and jump into the frying pan for a few weeks.
For phuks sake, we deal with the cess pool of humanity calling us on the phone, thousands of tramas a day in your ear piece, send thousands of police officers with guns to calls, decide who is going to get service and who is not.
But when you get nailed with the wrong belt on, you're going to cry , " such and such is wearing one toooooo": waaaaaaaa.
Give it a rest.

Will see how long that lasts, cause you still have employees that comes to work and sleep each and every day, spco's walk right past them without mumbling a word, and it's not fair to the other calltakers or dispatchers that are working beside them or working with them. It has been known that some spco's would walk right up to a calltaker who is sleeping on the job, take them off busy, and keep on going without trying to alert them, that they are being taken off busy, sounds like spco is trying to get employee in trouble. And let not forget about the dispatchers who sleep day in and day out, and spco doesn't say anything, it's not fair to their partner or anyone else for that matter, if majority can force themselves to get rest and come to work and do their jobs, so can the sleepers. I say if the sleepers can't stay awake and they are assigned on zones, than maybe they need to be reliefs and start getting dock for their time that they are sleeping, cause remember if someone ever brings a camera and tape people sleeping on the job, sleepers can't blame anyone but themselves, if they lose their jobs, cause they should already know that is a no no...and to think that our union can help you out of that mess, don't hold your breath.I care about my co-workers, but I want you to be able to get more rest, cause spring and summer is approaching, and it's not good to be sleepy and tired and trying to come in and get some sleep. Your performance will tell it all.

Okay why is it such a problem to be told about some you do/don't do that you KNOW is against the rules. Fuck, noone at this job is younger than 22/23 years old, and as far as I always knew, adults were responsible for their OWN actions, regardless of what anyone else is doing. Or would you somehow find it an acceptable defense if you got robbed by 2 different people, and when questioned by the police, the 2nd robber said "Well, did you say anything to the FIRST robber???" Sounds fucking ludicrous, doesn't it...

Hey idiots wake the fuck up. Why should we follow any rules when every executive director since Greg Bishop died played fast and loose with city of chicago policy or oemc rules and regulations and told the media more bullshit than they could print.
How many ways will they try to deny or limit fmla?
How long will they ignore progressive discipline?
How long till they pay money owed to people for back pay and grievance wins? Let's have an open debate on how we are adequately staffed. They keep trying to boost morale but then they crack down harder than Stalin on bullshit and they can't figure out why they have a credibility problem.
Good grief!!!!!
