Good idea.

Hey blogmaster...instead of a thread bashing the hard working, dumped-upon supervisors, let's talk about our co-workers who expect to come to work and get paid for doing next to nothing (and several while on overtime!!!) They do nothing more than steal a paycheck, in my opinion.
We agree wholeheartedly. And even though we can just imagine how nasty this thread could get (we'll be monitoring it closely), here's another open post.

A post to vent your gripes about lazy ass, sleep-on-the-job-because-they-work-too-much-overtime, work-double-shifts-and-do-a-fraction-of-the-work, spend-more-time-walking-than-sitting-at-the-console coworkers.

This could yield one of the highest comment counts in the ten months this blog has in existence.

Sleep all you want on ot as far as I'm concerned. That way I won't be mandated to stay one minute longer than I want to.

Well anyone who works knows that no one is " sleeping" when we are in the red, when we are not in the red we are answering ALL calls. I've worked all 3 watches and have yet to sit next to someone when the alarm is going off, that is sleeping.
Stupid jerk I am not, I didn't take this job to work ad infinitum everyday, I signed up for 8 hours, with lunches and breaks, not to be cancelled unless there was an emergency. Staffing problems is not an emergency it's a management issue.
Besides who cares if my family is calling, there isn't a police car in my neighborhood to send anyways! Just look at the backlogs and raps on zone 6 every day. God help anyone who lives on zone8.

well zone 6 has a perpetual backlog on 3rd and 1st watch, but the 3rd watch dispatchers are pretty good at getting out most of the real emergencies......it's usually the bull that stays on the board for a while.......yay to the zone 6 3rd watch regulars.....

Oh, yeah, that buzzer going off when there are calls in the queue is a REAL deterrent to those dogs who stand up and talk to each other while on busy. They don't care, they just listen to it buzz and go on with their conversations. They probably don't answer more than 50 calls a day while some people answer more than 200 calls in the same tour!! If I was answering 200 calls, and the canine next to me was pulling in 50, while making the same amount of money, if not MORE than I am, I would be royally P.O.'d!!!!

well, as an EMPLOYEE of this joke of a job, you should know better & tell every one of your family members NEVER to call 911 if they need help because some dog-ass, lazy, sleeping, useless, brainless idiot will most likely answer the phone....and not help them.

It seems to me that before someone is hired, one should have to pass a test showing a basic common knowledge of the English language, grammar and spelling. Learn how to spell and learn how to use "they're", "their" and "there" properly!! They are not interchangeable!! Neither are "to", "too" and "two"!! I can't even imagine being a dispatcher and attempting to read out some of the events I see being sent over to the zones. It's almost like some are written in a foreign language!! And some of the best dispatchers are the worst call takers! But they would be the first ones to complain about a "stupid" call taker.

Hands down the most horribly misspelled word I've had the pleasure of decoding to this day is.
BLACK DOVER MAN PIGEON DOG

AKA BLACK DOBERMAN PINSCHER

LMAO!

What gets me is the amount of bullshit that 311 operators transfer over to us. OK, I get the fact that their call takers think that they are too good to actually type up a ticket that needs to be sent the the zone for dispatch (i.e. parking violtions, dogs barking, loud music, etc.) Not that they could actually do that properly, anyway, most of them are so stupid. (I wish I had a dime for every time a caller said to me "I don't know WHY they transferred me to you, this isn't an emergency!!" I'd be VERY rich!!) But transferring calls to 911 that have NOTHING to do with police situations, sending callers to 911 when they want to file any kind of report over the phone...these kinds of situatiuons totally burn me up. What a waste of resources. If the city residents actually KNEW how MANY of the calls to an emergency line were bogus, they would be up in arms!!!

I work on the police side. Can you do me a favor and tell some of these dispatchers to stop chewing on paper when they give us a job. It's hard to understand them especially the one that gives out the all calls on citywide. Thanks to all those who do a good job keeping us safe.

Hey 11 July, 12:03

We on the ops floor have heard many police officers refer to that dispatcher as "mush-mouth" or "mumbles" for quite obvious reasons. What is funny (and ironic) about him is that when he talks, he usually ends what he is saying with the question "You know whaaa I'm saaaayin'?" And I want to say "NO!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!"

He's a nice guy, though.
