Watch selections have been posted.

And we know you're already fully aware of that, and we know you've already seen them. We aren't exactly posting this to tell you that.

We're posting this to give you an opportunity to gripe (and we know you're going to do that) about how PCO X did or didn't get which watch, and how you didn't get which watch.

And gripe all you want about management picks, just keep in mind that they're just those - *management picks*. How or why they pick them is at their discretion. And per the contract, that would be 20% of the manpower/watches. They owe us no explanation about how or why they pick certain people for certain watches - the only explanation we can reasonably expect is why people got watches by *bid/seniority*, which is kind of self-explanatory.

And don't try to pin the "management pick" label on us because of our point of view, either - we had enough seniority to get the watches we wanted by bid. Any argument to the contrary would be lost before it began.

And with those things in mind, please, carry on.

I haven't heard too many complaints just yet....

Seems like the few rumbles I have heard are from employees who have been on the job for about a minute but think they should be blessed with a PRIME power watch, even when their seniority number is about 999 out of 1000. *SARCASM*

Bit of advice to those people: Wait your turn. You'll have the seniority one day to get the watch you want. It's taken some of us only about nine years.

Just because management picks are at their discretion doesnt mean we cannot comment on them..for instance, how is it that M.T always gets what she wants....she's been a management pick on days for years and now a.m power. Its really sort of ridiculous. Don't cry that crap about how she has kids either..she also has a husband which many single moms here don't have. Either way, kids shouldnt be a reason to get a certain watch anyway.

We all Know it takes 20 years to have a chance on getting a watch you want. Good for everyone wh got the Power Watches and the shifts they bid for.

Now everyone is going to cry and complain about the day-off-group changes.

I was pretty sure that i wasn't getting power. I mean some of the management picks were completely ridiculous. They talk about having people on power who are going to come in and help. Most of the management picks for power are some of the laziest people. Even now on the watches they don't do crap.....can't wait for this to take effect!! But at least they will only be our relief and not stuck on a zone with them all day.

Off topic:

To our union stewards ....can you confirm true or false. comments re our contract negotiations? The following was on the Second City Sarge blog:

CONTRACTS
From the Tribune, CBS2, NBC5 and ABC7

The Daley administration and leaders representing 34 unions have reached tentative agreements on new contracts that would stretch over the next 10 years, offering the promise of labor peace through 2016 when the city hopes to land the Summer Olympics, City Hall and labor sources said Monday.

Trades workers under the new pact would continue to be paid the "prevailing wage," the hourly rate earned by their counterparts in private industry, according to a city official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Non-trades employees such as tree trimmers, dispatchers and crossing guards would get pay increases totaling 16 percent over the first five years of the contract, with the ability to seek more in the remaining five years, sources said.

Most important, it lasts ten years, until 2017, one year after the proposed Chicago Olympics.

But Daley insisted that timing had nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, City Hall has not yet negotiated new contracts with the Fraternal Order of Police and the Chicago Fire Fighters Union.

"My reaction is good for them," FOP President Mark Donahue said of the pending city worker pacts.

Wasn't he just crying poor last week?
Is this a sign that he is negotiating from a weak position?
He wants these contracts settled. In the past he never cared if they were ever settled and now he needs to appear stable.

I can't speak for any of the other union stewards at the O.E.M.C. but I personally have no knowlege regarding this matter. Our first meeting with the city regarding negotiations is set for August 15, 2007. If there has been any prior negotiations Michelle Driver has no knowledge or insight regarding this matter. I will say this, if said article is true then this union steward will be pissed. There is no way I should have to read something like this in the newspaper. That's bullshit and I am in the process of getting some answers. Anyone that knows me knows that I keep it real. The union representatives work hard and it is a slap in the face to have to read something of this nature on the blog or in the newspaper. Although as union stewards we don't always agree, we do communicate with each other and not ONE of them had confirmed that this article is infact true so I am assuming none of them is aware. I am going straight to the source for the truth...and any and all findings will be shared with my coworkers.... PCO2 Michelle Driver

Clout babies have a motto, " I have clout ,therefore I have the right to shout." Even if they only have two days on the job.

This is Vera Edmerson, and the news is unfortunately correct, these young ladies have been suspended. We, (the union reps) are now working on the grievance.

I was asked by a lot of you what can you do for our co-workers, DIG DEEP INTO YOUR POCKETS. They are now off without pay and I am sure they could use our support that way.

If you all haven't already started collecting on your respective watches, you can see me (I am on 1st watch).

Thank you!

AND WHAT WAS THE END RESULT FOR THE 2 SUPERVISORS WHO WERE UNDER INVESTIGATION REGARDING THE DURRKIN PARK INCIDENT???????????

16 August, 2007 23:45
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sure mistakes were made regarding Durkin Park but not 15 & 20 days worth. We here at the CPD feel your pain. The manpower shortage IS part of the problem, it's not totally the result of Dispatcher mistakes.

Unfortunately we have to collect all too often over here too. That suspension time is a big $$ hit so be as generous as you can.

Stay Tight!!!

i really feel for you guys because in typical city fashion they make these moronic rules to coddle the masses i.e. allowing the citizens to call for everything such as my eight year old is out of control,i went to mcdonalds and my fries are cold, and the ever famous i live a block away from my mother but im too lazy to check so have the police do it. but when these rules backfire and get out of control, they blame the workers!the city needs to get on the ball and hire more police ! we are overwhelmed and short handed and we are constantly in a backlog. the city needs to show some "tough love" for the residents, tell them it is not the polices problem that your eight year old is out of control. if you are having a dispute with your neighbor it is time to be a grown adult and handle your own problems and not expect the police to be the grown up in your life. to all the dispatchers, keep your head up,this too shall pass, and do not let this bull shit break your spirit
