We're back. To put it bluntly, s@*# happens, but it is over so we have commenced with our posting.
First up: congratulations are in order to OEMC Supervisor Brown. Blogmaster hears that its officially official: Supervisor Brown is now Watch Manager Brown. As one of the first female and one of the first civilian dispatch supervisors, Blogmaster is cautiously optimistic about this appointment. Let's only hope that she can play with the big boys, unlike her immediate un-dearly and non-missed predecessor who as THE first female civilian WM couldnt hang and was run out of shop for wetter pastures. In any case Blogmaster sincerely wishes Supervisor Brown well in her future job and hopes that she will not be adversely affected by her new duties.
While on the topic of supervisors, let the record reflect Blogmasters whole hearted support for their bid at unionization. The Labor Board, after ruling in favor of the supervisors (was there ever a real doubt after listening to testimony from the moronic TS, CG, and MK?), has the distinction of having had its decision appealed by the city. That's right. The city is appealing the FINAL ruling of the labor board in a last ditch attempt to prevent the TEAMSTERS from representing the supervisors at a bargaining table. Blogmaster suggests, respectfully of course, that city resources and manpower be better spent elsewhere. The unionization is both inevitable and overdue: delaying only sends the message--again--that the city does not value its front line employees and increases the amount of retro checks.
Word on the street is that rdos for new years eve will be cancelled again for 1st watch, pmp dispatchers, and pmp calltakers. Blogmaster hears that even 3rd watch may be on the hook this year, but we cannot confirm this. Let us just point out the futility of this now, in advance of the usual year end hoopla, and state the obvious: call volume goes up on new years eve and there is nothing we can do to stop that short of blocking 911 from the direct dial.
