Print it your damned self

We can (and will actually have to) now print our own backlogs. Well, we technically could have before, but we weren't authorized to, and noone showed us how. But there's a training notice floating around, and supervisors will no longer print them for us (unless we're as dumb as bricks and can't figure out the simple task). For those who can't understand the training notice, which we admit is a tad confusing, here's a simpler, abbreviated set of instructions:

1. Right-click on the left monitor as if you were opening a 3270 screen (you do at least know to do that, we hope).
2. Instead of clicking "X3270," click "Print" right above it.
3. In the box that pops up, type in the date in the form of YYDDMM (i.e., 070905 today).
4. Click the "File" menu at the top left, select the second "Print..." option, and click on the diamond for Screen 1.
5. Repeat Step 4, clicking the diamond for Screen 2 instead.
See how easy that is? And now we don't have to wait indefinitely for a floor supervisor. Especially when there's only one working.

Of course there's no experienced and dedicated full time IT staff to automate the process with a script that runs every time the RAP ticket is generated. Wait...

I think it's a load of crap. The supervisors get paid a lot more money than us and that is one of their duties.

i don't know what all the fuss is about...it's easy and fast. you put your rap ticket in, print the 2 monitors and that's it. i for one am ecstatic ! and for the dispatcher that's complaining about it so much on the slow zone up front, well it probably doesn't even affect you..do you ever even have raps and yeah when your light goes on the supv are there right away, your in front. but for the busy zones toward the back it takes a long time to get a supv attention and every minute that they don't take the picture can mean your butt on the line for priority ones over the time. stop crying and be happy that things are getting done faster and easier.

First of all, just because I commented on this in roll call doesn't mean I wrote that post, which I didn't. So just leave me out of your comments. Second, I've been here 9 years, so what if I am on a slower zone now? I have and can worked every zone in the room.

Just a thought. When I am primary, I "delegate" the secondary to make the RAP event. Real easy, type it up, turn on your red light, notify a Supv. and it's done. But now, when I get stuck with a sucky partner I may think twice about telling the secondary to make the RAP ticket and make sure they print it out. Some of the people we work with are useless, and do I really trust them to actually do it? And do it correctly?? There's no quick way for me to double check and see if it's printed. Just a thought. I may be doing my own RAPS from now on, just to CYA!!!

if you are not with your regular partner, you are most likey going to get a shitty parnter since the last few classes of dispatchers are arrogant and useless. so you better do the RAP yourself anyways!

yeah if you have a sucky partner it may have to be done by you and the some of the new dispatchers aren't that good but at least they have an excuse, they are new. but what about some of the dispatchers that have been there for a very long time and suck just as bad......they have no excuse, they should know what to do by now. but just like making the rap ticket it will get quicker and easier with practice. i think its a great idea but then again i have a great regular partner. =)
